Provide a way to mark lat/long grids.
Many maps have grid lines drawn on them. There should be an easy way to mark where two lines cross and specify the lat/long of that point to georeference it. On some maps, just marking all the grid points would be all that is needed, and would be much easier than matching up map features. Some maps (especially older ones) might have inaccurate lines and need corrections from there, but using the lines would still be a big help to get them started. I've also seen a couple maps where the grid lines were almost the only usable details.
23 votesThank you for your idea, we are discussing the possible implementation of the grid lines to be used for georeferencing.

allow for input coordinates directly
sometimes maps have pass marks, it would be nice to allow for direct input of coordinates
13 votesThank you for your idea, it would be a nice feature and we are going to discuss internally.

Put something on the My maps page - something like links to map collections I can georeference
when I log in as a new user I have no maps on My maps page - I would like to have something like invitation to georeference something - like you have on the main page... or even a random map to work on (maybe something from MZK :-)

6 votesThere is a possibility to rename a map. Can you please specify, what you mean by “add number”?

provide a downloadable, georeferenced image (pdf or ...) that I can save to a mobile device and import into an app such as PDF maps
Great! I got the georeferencing all done, but my data is still "stuck" on the website. I know I can download the kmz and the wld files, but I don't think that will help in using the original image/pdf with apps such as PDF Maps, which on android, can import georeferenced maps.

mark "active" node of cutline
by changing its color or shape or something. User likes to know which point he is about to delete.
3 votesThe active node is visible when you point the mouse cursor on it but we will review the idea and implement the color change.
To exit this mode is easy by clicking on the other panel (Overlay e.g.).
To improve this feature, please feel free to be more specific.

Real Time Control Point Accuracy Feedback
Most times I am Georeferencing I wonder, is the control point I'm about to add accurate. It would be wonderful to be able to instantly see if it was after I add it. Three specific suggestions.
In the Coordinates Pane, prominently show an Average Error score. That way after a point is added you can see if the score goes up or down.
In the Transformation tab of the pane show an Average Error score foe each of the transformation types you can select. That way you know which one is best to select.
If you add a Control Point…
3 votesThis is a great idea, we will definitely consider implementing this feature, but it is not a priority at this moment.
Thank you. -
High Res Vector Base Map
Ability to use High quality vector base map as a base layer.
Ideally the following three layers will be available.
1. OSM Bright - https://openmaptiles.org/
2. Streets (including 3d buildings) - https://maps.klokantech.com/
3. Positron - https://openmaptiles.org/3 votes -
Import PDF + Grid lines
I'm used to georeferencing dozens of approach plates for aviation, which means it would be awesome to import them directly in PDF at a given DPI. Most of the charts come with the lat and lon marks so, instead of placing points, it would be faster to simple position 2 latitude lines for top and bottom and 2 longitud lines for left and right sides.
3 votesThank you for your post, we are discussing the possible implementation of the “grid line” feature.

Guidance for volunteers on number of points and clip points
There have been a number if maps recently where i was presented with a map where the number of points entered exceeded 150 (One recent of map of San Francisco had points on every street intersection some 300+) It is extremely time consuming removing these points. Can there be a maximum as well as a minimum number of points for each map.?
Clipping the map. Can I have some guidance on what should be included in a clipped map eg legend, co-ordinates, title, scale. ( there have been a number of instances when a map has clipped to the outline…2 votes -
enable base map to be rotated
The rotation of source map introduced in version 4 is great, however it does not solve an imprtant issue. A lot of historical maps and plans (like cities from old sketches) have landmarks drawn. When such map is NOT oriented to the North, then after rotating the base map, it does not look good. It would be great, if there would be a possibility to rotate also the base map (openstreetmap, google maps, satelite view, etc)

Technical support question
Hello, a simple question: In Oldmapsonline the map-menu on the right hand side of the screen only shows a thumb-picture of the map and short name. How do I get to see the map's full information ?

3D view of georeferenced map (with digital elevation)
Support for digital elevation models.
It would be great to end up with a georeferenced old map overlaid on top of an accurate digital elevation. You can see an example of this here - https://www.davidrumsey.com/view/georeferencer
1 voteThank you for your idea, we are thinking about digital elevation models and possible implementation.
But for now, this is not the priority feature. -
add support for MrSID images from LoC
Jpeg2000 from Library of congrass works fine - could you add MrSID support as well?
See http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?gmd:8:./temp/~ammem_SSrb::
1 voteThank you for your post, we will discuss internally the possibility of adding MrSID support.

Coordinates Sidebar on Side by Side and Overlay Layouts
It would be amazing to see the coordinates as you add control points so you can keep track of how accurately you are doing so.
Recommended UX would be to get rid of the coordinates tab and integrate the coordinates pane into the Side by Side and Overlay layouts. Clicking on a Coordinates icon would slide out the pane in the same manner that the other maps pane slides out.
1 voteThis is a great idea, thank you for your post. We are going to consider possible implementation.
